GoPro battery help
« on: March 24, 2016, 06:35:48 pm »
Hey guys I got a used GoPro 3+ this winter wondering what battery pack people are using or if any? I read that the normal batteries you only get a couple hours of recording out of them if your lucky, wondering if anyone has one the can take with them all day and is still waterproof!

Thanks for the help in advance,
Noah

I have the same gopro ..
What I do is Not leave it on for the hole trip.
I bring 2 back up gopro battery's with me ..(only needed them one time)
If I know I'm going to film alot .I don't power it fully off I just hit stop rec ..because fully turning on and off takes up alot of the battery life..  WiFi  is a BIG battery killer...
The life of a gopro battery is quite  good ...
Like I said turning it fully on and off and WiFi use up alot...
You should be happy with it ..Gopro's are pretty good ...there is some quality  with them ..

Great thanks a lot for the tips!  How long did you find one lasts? Couple hours? So manually hitting record is the best bet. I am excited, do you ever edit the videos? What program do you use?

I have a 3 black and I have trouble getting motivated to use it because of the poor battery life.

The 3+ are better on batteries but 2 hrs is probably still pushing it. Turning it off and on works I guess but then its something you have to fiddle with, something I refuse to do if I am concentrated on reeling in a fish lol.

This is how most guys set up an external battery.

I have several of these batteries and have almost got 5 hours of recording time on them.  Good for Hero3 or 3+

I haven't seen these before, that would be a good solution. I have a battery bacpac but it doesn't seem to work right and they are too expensive but this is a reasonable price.

Of course you can't ship to Canada and they aren't on Amazon Canada though...

Perks of living in a border town.

The battery can be a little inconsistent but I would still rate them an 8/10

Pike creek: those batteries--do they fit in the GoPro backpack or some other way? Pardon my ignorance.

I had the wasabi batteries and they were ok.  The Smartee batteries to be better again though.   I can get a 3+ hours out of them no problem, but I don't record steady through.    I usually have the camera set to turn on when I hook a fish, or will turn it on and take perhaps 4 - 5 min 'b role', hoping at the time to hook a fish,..etc.

I usually take 2 spares for each of my 2 GoPros with me and rarely use all the batteries on a single outing.

These aren't the 3 hour wasabi batteries, as I said in my post I have recorded close to 5 hours with them.

I don't remember if they came with the extended back for the GoPro case or not.  If you read the reviews on the Amazon post it might tell you there.  I am also pretty sure I have used the extended back that the GoPro Extended Battery comes with.

I did my homework. The wasabi extended battery can be ordered with its own back door.
