What Species do you want to be the King Of ?
« on: September 10, 2015, 02:34:33 pm »
Some impressive individual stats can be seen from the KW site.

Looks like Dave is leading smallie numbers so far with 117 and then Pikecreek with 86.
Flyfisher is looking like the largie King with 102 so far.
Transplant has the most pickerel at 80, ( Rocketball has 62 ).
Kayak Curtis is the walleye king with a tally of 129. ( Shooter has 84 )
Shooter's the Drum ( 95 ) and White Bass (78) King.
With pike.. KC's has 112, Ravyak 106.
Ravyak's the Yellow perch ( 37 ), Brook Trout ( 35 ) and Goldeye  (16 ) King .
Otownyaker the channel cat King at 26.
Homebrew the sturgeon King at 12 ( and yes we know you have caught more ).
For salmon Michael Angelo has a whooping 46 so far.
Muskie..Mtmouse leading with 9.
Jkind  leading whities with 22.
DWC and myself are the Laker Kings at 10 a piece.

I'm also the proud Crappie and Sunfish King !
( We all know who the Rock Bass King is  ;) )

Guess John is the sculpin king too.

So many species. There's a bunch missing in the above blurb.

What specie do you want to be the KING of ??  :D

... Anything trout...

Pike and walleye are a blast but weren't even on my radar for over a month with only 1 walleye caught.
I've spent more time and money chasing trout than anything this year. Brookies have got to be the  hardest Species I would say to take pics of, damn things never stop moving.
Last month was about perch and trout. Landed some nice rainbows, & lost some real hogs that are going to haunt me for some time.

...for now anything trout...

All of them lol.

My goal this open water season was to catch all of Alberta's game fish species(18 species total) and now I only have 2 species remaining(Burbot and Whitefish). Of the 16 I have caught, 12 of them have been from my kayak.

My favourite is 25+ inch trout. They are hard to find, harder to catch and it is hard to beat the fight and overall satisfaction of catching one. Now I just need to find my big brookie and cutty...

I have an insane desire to catch a 15" Brook Trout. Not huge numbers of them, just one. But it's rare that I have the time to put the required effort into finding them, and catching them. I always fall back on the easier, closer options. But one day.....

The fact i can be top of any catch count is awesome.
Im happy catching any fish at all.
I think i would rather catch a larger number or species then numbers thow. Always nice to see the first catch of a diff species for the year.

As for numbers on kw i seem to have lost intrest in it and have set my goal on gettint a cka record.
I have tied a record, but i must have one to be mine!

Being on top of a certain Freshwater Sportfish in numbers is an accomplishment.  Especially if you are actually targeting that certain species.

My personal goal is to be proficient at catching all Freshwater Sport Fish.  Walleye, SM & LM Bass, Muskie, Pike, Salmon, Steelhead, Brown Trout, and Sturgeon.

I only wish it wasn't so far for me to go target Salmon and Trout.  I would target Sturgeon more often if I didn't have to travel over an hour to Michigan (other side of LSC) to legally fish for them.

Hey Brent,
How did you access all those stats?  Or did you have to go through them individually?  I had a nice head start on the smallies fishing the NY trophy season which starts May 1st.  I'm happy targeting whatever is available.  My favorite thing about KW is the record keeping, I've entered more fish this year than the last two combined.  Would love to get a few steelhead in the kayak this fall

Easiest to look at tallies in  team stats. Pikecreek and myself have lost previous years tallies ( species programming ).
( I was the Canadian smallie King last year with 106... there's one American that had 200 last year...
I'll be coming after you later in the year.  ;) )

I hear you PC. One of the best places in Canada for lake Sturgeon is around Montreal.
About 2.5 hrs for me, figuring out logistics and all somewhat tough. It would be
so much easier  and more fun to have a knowledgeable local take me out.
Did 2 futile attempts a couple years ago. Hope to
find that person some day soon  ( Or drive to NB ) ! Well at least  I made it out once for Lake O
September salmon this year.

My Sturgeon trips in 2 year equals 4.   I am 2 for 4, 1 sturgeon each year.

I went out alone all 4 times, but for 2 of those was only a few hundred yards from friends on shore and we were communicating by radio.  The other two times, were on busy rivers at night.  I never felt comfortable for any of these trips.

After hearing about the unfortunate tragedy in Wisconsin during the last leg of the Great Lakes Kayak Fishing Series, I have decided the only way I go for Sturgeon is with a partner.   I own two anchoring setups and two rods rigged for Sturgeon.  All you need is the anchor trolley.

Pretty cool, a couple tiger muskie caught recently.
Being the Tiger Musky King would be cool.  :)

Rich, certain your fish is a tiger, scales on cheek, main tail fins rounded.
If you want to see something a bit peculiar look at Turtle64's 3 tigers,
they look like northern pike / pickerel hybrids to me. Na, I checked em
again and they are small tigers.

Shooter's the Canadian gar King this year with 15.
Thought I did ok with 6, and Shooter will probably agree you're
doing alright landing 1 in 3 that strike.
Figure the records are just sitting there for an Ottawa river gar to smash, oh
well perhaps next year.  :)

Well post some pics. then. We are all here to learn from each other.
Just going by KW stats, and something to talk/post about.

Post a pic. of a big gar and brag.

There's really only a few of us posting and am sure there are lots of  great kayak fish caught
regularly.
We are a community, or something like that.  :)
