Let there be light.
« on: March 07, 2015, 05:22:39 pm »
I managed to get some lights wired up today. Grabbed some LED's from Princess Auto and picked up the stern light from Dan's Nautical...he's ordered a mount for it, which will be in by Tuesday...great service.

I installed the switch panel last week...was a bit nervous cutting into the new PA, but it turned out perfect.

What are all of those switches for?

Cockpit lights, stern light and fishfinder. I have the USB charge port for my iPad mini...leaves a couple extra switches for future add-ons...if needed.

Im diggin the lighting... would make for a better experience when looking for something in the dark haha.

How much extra weight does it add to the boat?

Maybe 1.5lbs. I already had the battery for the fishfinder.

Everything runs off the 12V 9ah battery I have installed up front.

Power runs to switch panel and splits off into the individual switches and USB charge port.

I ran the power from the one switch to the LED lights ($18 at Princess Auto, enough to do both sides.) fastened under the mounting boards.

Ran the power off another switch to the back for the stern light. (just waiting for the mount).

I don't have the Sonar Phone wired up yet, but that will be done next week.

Very nice set up. I like the USB plug. I've been thinking of doing that now that I'm running the Sonar Phone. Do you think there will be any issues with rain/moisture while charging through the USB?

Tim can you use the USB connection to charge the battery? perhaps by using solar panels?

I'm not concerned with moisture; if it rains, I just won't have anything plugged into it and have the cover on it.

I'm not sure about charging the battery back through the USB port. I don't expect I will be needing to with the 9ah battery, I should be able to get through the whole day on it...if not a couple.
