2015 Eastslope Kayak Fishing Classic - July 4th - Caroline, AB
« on: February 24, 2015, 04:08:48 pm »
Hey everyone. Things are under way here in Alberta already for our tournament. We have got all of our licenses and permits in place and are already starting to receive donations from our sponsors.

This year we are doing things a little different. We are fishing 2 lakes simultaneously, so anglers will have to budget their time well since each lake holds species that are found in both lakes and also a species that is found only in that lake. This should make for an interesting event and will allow different angler to play into their own wheelhouse when fishing for certain species.

Registration is open at https://eastslopekayakfishingclassic.wordpress.com/registration/

Cost is $60 and there is camping available in the host community of Caroline.

Wilderness Systems has stepped up once again as our kayak sponsor for the door prize and we are already starting to see some very cool prizes being donated.

We are fishing Burnstick Lake and Phyllis Lake here in Alberta. Both lakes will allow angler to catch 5 Yellow Perch and 4 White Suckers, while Burnstick will allow for 1 Northern Pike over 63 cm and Phyllis will allow for 5 Trout, for a total of 15 possibly fish to be entered.

Hope to see a lot of you guys out here.

If you have any questions, please email me at eastslopeclassic@gmail.com or call me at 403-392-1922

Mike

Don't want to give to much away, but i put on a clinic on how to lose fish all day long, and finished 20 out of 46 I believe.
Great day with a great group of people. Managed my first perch in a couple years. I was able to help 2 people to catch their first perch and one to land his first ever rainbow.
Can't wait for next years already.
I think the worst part of these events is seeing all the other new kayaks and wondering if you made the best choice for yourself...
Mike Zilkowsky sure puts on a great event.

Yeah there are lots of great kayaks coming out these days. One that had my interest was the Slayer Propel, was anyone sporting one of them?

No Slayers, the one that really caught my eye was the new ATAK. My co worker that came along was supposed to use a cheap sit inside loaner for the event and thanks to Kevin with Wilderness Systems he was able to borrow an ATAK for the tourney. I can only imagine that With the what wilderness has coming soon with the drop in minkota or peddle options that fits into the current line up with the electronics console, two words...Game Changer.

Mike, is that you? lol ;)

So Wildy is working on a peddle system? It will be interesting to see how that turns out.

I would have a hard time going back to a paddle kayak now.

I was looking at the website today and I gotta ask when do we call it a canoe. how high can the sides be before it's no longer a sit on top.  Is this a sit on top,  a sit inside, a canoe ?  the dictionary says a kayak is a watercraft with a two bladed paddle.  If I use a two bladed paddle on a ranger bass boat is it now a kayak? I like the idea of the propeller. but this thing is so high sided I'd be inclined to call it a canoe. Any thoughts.
PS not trying to hijack the thread I was at the east slope derby and had a blast,  didn't catch a lot , but then no one did. (I did manage to catch a buzz LOL )  It's come a long way since Tim, Mike, and myself organized the first one.
Cheers Rick

Oh yeah its a nice looking boat and I don't want anyone to think I'm slagging it, just want to know what everyone thinks it is a SOT, SIS, or canoe

Haha. The ATAK has a very low profile designed to shed wind. The new pedal drove will officially be released at OR. The motor is at icast right now.
