I'll tell you a trick I use so I don't miss fishing days because I forgot something important. Rig up your kayak so it's ready to hit the water. Then count how many important things are included as parts. For me that's seat, PFD, paddle, fishing rods, shoes. That's 5. Every single day I go fishing I count to 5, and count off each thing as I go. If I forget anything else I can still manage, but these are the thigns that can ruin a day if I forget them.

Also, all of my tackle is packed in a Precision Pak, and everything else that will fit goes in a rubbermaid tote. So I count to 5, grab my pak and my tote, and I'm ready to go fishing.

A check list is a great idea and something I will definitely have to do up.
But I noticed you didn't include the kayak.

Haha. Very true. I have a few huge duffle bags that I use. The bottoms are loaded with dry suits and PFDs while the top has fish finder, battery and everything else other than tackle. That way I can grab the duffle bag that matches the kayak and away I go. I know I have all the gear required.

Gonna try again and hit up Glenmore Reservoir after work tomorrow.  Made up my check list. Brought everything on the front lawn and assembled them on the yak to make sure I wasn't missing anything.  Everything looked good then BAM ... Where's my WIN card and fishing license???  I had it on Sunday but now for the life of me I can not find it. Spent the last 1-1/2 hrs looking and I still can't find it.  I swear that once I buy replacements tomorrow I'll find them.

I shared your thread on Facebook and Twitter.  You've put a lot of good work on your boat and there's a lot of good info here..

FYI. Go on albertarelm.com. You can buy and reprint your fishing license there. I have been using it for years

Finally installed my Lowrance Elite 5 HDI fishfinder and Ram transducer arm.  Picked up a 12V 9ah SLA to power it. Temporarily used a leak proof food container to house the battery until I can finder something more durable.

Hey Joel,
Congratulations on the big win at Eastslope. It was really great to see someone brand new to the sport do so well. I'm sure it will take a few days for you to stop grinning from ear to ear. Have a great rest of the season and maybe I'll see you out on the water some where.

Thanks Alan, it was nice meeting you and thanks for the advice that I should take the picture first and remove the hook after.  It was real nice seeing other kayak anglers on the water and watching what they could do with their kayaks with that windy wet weather conditions during the tournament.  I have a lot more confidence in my kayaking capabilities now.  Also, a big thanks to Mike and yourself for hitting up all the sponsors for all the great prize packages.  If we don't see each other on the water this fishing season, I'll look forward to seeing you again at next years tournament.
