Guilty as charged, I had a canoe for over 20 years, it wasn't until I lost it one early morning trip to one of our hotspots that I had to go and invest in another mode of transportation and since Chris already had one I liked it enough to go and get my own. I have never looked back.. all those years of training gone...LOL..

I used to be a Sportspalaholic. Just sold my 14' transom model last weekend. I had it for 14 years and had many great fishing adventures in it. When I found out that I would need an operators card because it was powered by an electric trolling motor, that was the beginning of the end. I find it much more enjoyable to paddle a yak, and fish alone, than I thought I would.
"Operators cards?...We don't need no stinking operators cards."

We are definitely "kindred spirits" I enjoyed Many years in my 14 foot lightweight aluminum canoe which went everywhere on the French River thanks to a little one and a half Evinrude "kicker" which I can't operate anymore because I'm a paddler first and secondly I don't subsribe to B.S.

God Bless,
Don

I don't personally understand what the big deal with this card is anyway. Just go write the exam and get the card and be done with it. The card is good for life. Chris and I challenged the exam (which means you don't have to take the offered course, we just went and wrote the exam) and passed with flying colours. You never know someday down the road we may want to take a boat out for a spin at a friends cottage or tow all the yaks at once slowly down the lake or something.. and in that instance I will have it already. There to me are more pros than cons for not getting the card now... I am not all the conspiracy oriented to think that the Government is collecting all the names of boaters across the country to keep tabs on them... fellas just go get the damn card and be done with it... before too long you will probably need one even if all you are taking out is a canoe or kayak with only a paddle for power....LOL

An interesting feature of the boating card is that renters don't need them.  I'm not sure if it's all renters or just non-Canadian resident renters but it seems odd that the person least qualified to deal with local conditions is the only one who gets turned loose without having his knowledge tested.  Some bozo who barely knows the bow from the stern can get out and just give 'er.

Now gentlemen... I am no Conservation Officer so don't take this the wrong way. I do not recommend breaking the law in any way shape or form nor would I openly say that I would on a public forum. Some thought should go into the posts before they are written. I understand how some conversations can get heated because the topic is of personal interest to some or they are passionate about it. I am a member of several fishing sites and all of them have some regard for the law. It is prohibited in most spots to talk about breaking the law. You do understand that because it is a public forum it can be used in the court of law if it ever came to that.... having said that, I don't see Yaks needing a card anytime soon however if it ever came to it then my suggestion would be to just go and get it and be done with it.
