Kayak Wars Canada
« on: January 17, 2013, 09:00:19 pm »
I don't want to take anything away from the AOTY tournament, but I am hoping to get some info on interested people that may want to add another contest to their plans for 2013.

I have been doing some research on how we can get a new Canadian division of Kayak Wars going. I have already been in touch with the owners of the contest and sites and they are stoked about getting us on board. In order to get a new division to represent Canada I need to get at least 4 teams together to register. A team must have a minimum of 3 anglers and a maximum of five. You do not need to form a team from your city or even your province.  For now they are willing to set up a Canadian division and then they may make regional divisions next year depending on how this takes off. So, you can be on a team that has one member from 5 different provinces.  At this point I simply need to know a number of people that would be into joining. This is for fun and its free. And, if you are logging your catches for the AOTY tourney here then you can almost just duplicate the entry on their site too.

You can check out more info and the rules for the contest at http://kayakwars.com/rules.php

Please don't try to register yet. If we can get the numbers together then I will contact the organizers and they will set up a new registration page ASAP and then I will share that with all of you.

For now just let me know who would want to join.

Cheers.

FW and FH are both correct, if you enter one derby, you are already doing a report and preparing pictures to put on a website and doing multiple derbies isn't much more difficult.  I did 3 online derbies last year and all 3 were slightly different but it didn't matter because I was able to use the same picture.

I wish this topic would have come up sooner and I could have help out a team.  I just registered on Wednesday evening for on the MKF team.

I might be able to help a team.   ;)
Haven't read the rules since last year, but know they didn't want
photobucket pics. cause they don't work with windows viewer to zoom in.
I use photobucket. Has that site changed like this one in that you can
directly load a bigger pic. like 4000 x 3000 pixels ? If not, you guys use
imageshack or facebook then ?
Your team did well last year eh, Pikecreek .
How many fish do you need to post a month / year to be competitive ?

Oh, just read the rules.
They don't want photobucket cause it looses the photo inscription..date etc.
Guess there 's no problem directly downloading bigger pics. to a submission form ?

Has anyone found a Canadian source for Hawg Troughs besides Cabealas ?
If I order one on line from Cabelea's it still costs a lot to ship to Ontario.
All their on line orders are shipped from the states even though they have
stores in western Canada.  :o

Hey PikeCreek, perhaps contact KW to change the team if you want .

Who wants to make a team ? , Need team entered by May 1st .

i'll join up.
just a heads up. you can not use the exact same picture here in AOTY as on the kayak wars site, so take another shot. most sites are like that, i keep track of where each picture has been shown (some sites are much picker about this than others, and Jeff could make exception on this or not, either way it would look good to see a cka token on a kayak wars entry page.)
any salt water kayak fishers from the west coast interested?
you might have to post about this in the regional sites to get enough for at least 4 teams.

Hey I'd check into that Cabelas online order thing again. Now maybe it just cause I'm in AB but my recent Cabelas order was shipped from Winnipeg. Cabelas.ca??or .com??

ok so it seems that there is enough interest for a couple of teams ....i'm out of town right now but i'll be looking to form a team next week....i'm still a relative newbie in all of this derby stuff so i'll be looking to hook up with someone who has some experience in all this....how and when do we form a team?

Sounds good to me, too. We might be able to field 2 teams from Essex county! Dibs on Shooter!
Joe, btw, I found a good link showing a Hobie, outfitted with Gear Trak rails.

Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day. Teach a man to fish and he'll sit in a boat and drink beer all day.

If I was to stack a team to represent CKA in this I would pick, Brent, John C., Wayne, Richard O and someone else on the east coast. Maybe John G or Jeremy who fishes the salt. Thats a guarantee winner team.
As long as you stick the token in the shots for the AOTY then its all good for our site. I dont care about owning photos and all that crap. If I want to use a photo I just ask or assume noone will care about me using it.
It would be cool to tag up with an existing successful event. Might help ours evolve.

I don't currently have an official Hawg Trough, but I have the equivalent.  In fact in some ways I like it better because expands from 20" to 36".  I can't recall the exact name of it, but the local WalMarts were selling them for $10 each.  A great deal.  I do, however, recommend that you use a black marker to make it easier to make out the measurements.  You can see the one I use in the Photo Registry under Fallfish.
