Any Truck kayak loading options?
« on: March 18, 2012, 11:26:45 am »
Greeting everyone, I have a full size truck that I load 2 OK in the box for short trips, which works fine. But I want to still use my box with tonneau cover(gear and luggage) for long trips and still want to bring the kayaks along. Any ideas how I can make both work? Cheers.
And price is a big factor, so no trailers or anything like that.

that invisi rack is very nice! a real slick set up.
i`ve done the same sort of thing with a couple pieces of 2x4 and some 2x2 for cross pieces. works great if you have post pockets in the truck. i found it easiest if i took the back ones out, loaded the yak onto the front one, then slipped the rear rack back in under the yak. sounds more complicted than it is to do, and on a short yak you wouldn`t have to do that. be sure to tie down bow and stern, just in case.

i would use a set up like ouird has. it has a link to it in the "kayak transport all sorted out" lead. that way it doesn`t really need any special racks, it all about that loading roller set up.

Thanks ipop,

Found it, although the SUV is quite different than mine.

Finally found a solution for carrying it on top of the truck.

Maybe not as stable as a permanent one, but this will have to do.

Works great.

Look at the extendatruck option , I use mine all the time, it fits in the hitch and is also good for other projects.

I built one of these myself.. I made it with extending arms on top and an extra piece I can put in to raise it even higher so I can close my tailgate and still use it.. Also have another attachment with a winch and hoist for loading deer into my truck in hunting season.
