**NEW**Camera Mounting System
« on: November 23, 2011, 03:41:33 pm »
I have the inside scoop on a new mounting system that is coming out and has a pretty sweet design. Not sure who is looking right now but the price point is 70-80$. Fits in scotty mounts and is well built for go pros and other small to mid sized pointnshoots. They havent launched yet but they are a kayak friendly company and I will for sure unleash the news when it is up. Just hold on ot your cash if you are looking now.

I would say that it looks a bit more well designed than the xshot. Xshot swivels its mount up and down and when you loosen the thing to get a bit of angle you risk your camera falling in the drink. The design of this head has a design that allows for any kind of movement you want. Its about the same cash as the xshot but Im not sure of the final amount yet. I will post the details next week.

Most of the parts are made of plastic. I will check into the small portion on the specs I have that shine ans ee if they are aluminum. Xshot had a prob with salt.

the metal parts are covered with stuff and very minimal. I imagine it will be way better for salt. I should have release info next Tuesday to let you see pics and payment info.

me too. and there is a big sale at CAD tire for cheap waterproof cameras. 50$ for a Poloroid X800 camera. They would suffice for kayak pics and you wouldnt mind dropping them overboard. Im gonna get a couple today to go with the mounts Im buying from Greenfish :)

Has anyone tried this mount on the water? The flex-mount looks like it would get the camera into almost any position you'd want but it also looks like it would be bouncing around with the movement of the yak.

Seems to me I heard somewhere that Scotty is coming out with a universal, adjustable camera mount - anyone else heard about this?

I couldn't wait for Scotty to come up with their version. So I got various parts and put them together.  I really wanted it to have a Scotty base so I wouldn't need to add various mounts all over my kayak. I also wanted it to be compatible with mounts I already had on the yak.

I added a Scotty mount on my milk crate to gain height. Here is what I came up with.
