As an alternative to tramps have you seen this mod that the Hawaii gang are into?

I will be checking out the used AI within the week--I've got the next 2 weeks off and the pb's have been conking halibut here since the fiirst of the month.
Pikecreek--great looking first mate. How is he at netting fish?

I brought home a demo AI that I bought from Alberni Outpost today. It's going to be fun to take it for a sail and then start rigging it for fishing.

Still haven't tried out the new boat yet ---Easter was going to be the weekend but i've got the flu bug. Having my butt welded to the couch has given me lots of time to read about the AI. HOC--you had a post where you lost some of the mast bearings when transporting your boat. Stringy from Hawaii recommends cutting a chunk of pool noodle to stuff in the mast receiver hole whenever he is moving the boat. Prevents the bearings from ever popping out--cheap and easy.
Next weekend there's some good halibut tides here on the south island so maybe i'll go give the boat a try then. Come on down, Wayne!

Hi T2, keep us posted on how your rigging is going.

Funny thing is that I'm in Nanaimo right now but don't have my boat with me. Visiting family is the focus and it's best I don't have fishing equipment when that's the goal :D I will be back with the rig in the summer though.

I will use the pool noodle idea, thanks.

@baysel, I will be dropping in on Tuesday on my way back to hopefully pick up a rudder upgrade kit if you have them in stock. I'll hopefully see you then.

Yeah I'm going to use the noodle once I replace the collar and bearings.  I've got them sitting on a shelf waiting until the weather is sail-worthy before I bother making the switch.  I did get my trampolines though and running with one ama and a tramp seems like it is going to be my go-to setup for most fishing this year, with the sail and other ama thrown in on windy days or for multi-day trips.

Not until June unfortunately.  We don't usually catch any good fish until mid June it seems but I'm going to be out all through early June as well I think.
