very nice!!! some awesome paddles there Exstreamfisherman!!!

i have a buddy trying to sell me the paddles he made for his father years ago, a similar idea in design to yours, with a ton of leather work on the handles. again, very nice, but i think he should keep them in the family, so i`m bugging his cousins to take them.

these all make my poor old/new paddle look very plain, but i have tried it out striper fishing and it works just fine (i don`t consider it "done" yet, there is a section at each end of the handle i would like to do something with, but i haven`t been inspired yet) i have some simple decorative sections towards the blades, and have fibre glass them and the blades, leaving the rest natural for now to age and color a bit...and inspire something for those spots i`m still thinking about. i was leaning towards something first nations or Celtic knots or...something else!! lol

oh, and my paddle sheds water incredibly well! about an hour into the fishing trip, i noticed i wasn`t getting wet - !! so i turned on my light and took a look at what was happening. almost all of the water was being shed from the "corner" points of the blade, and what little didn`t leave that way was knocked off by the sectioned pieces at the top of the handle. allright!!

Once again fellas.. I never made the paddles... I just painted the design on them. I have done roughly 20 or more of these in various designs from Keltic to Native art and even a few in Egyptian. I have one more paddle scheduled to be painted for Chris when he gets it up to me.. it is a wooden kayak paddle so I will do both blades on it for him as well... lot more leather work scheduled as well. I usually use the internet for designs and find what moves me then I modify it a little and increase it to fit the size of the paddle then add the colours that I want... Sanding the paddles, verathane after painting etc... Although I can draw some of these designs I usually just modify or combine the ones I like.. I just don't want anyone thinking I am this great artist or skilled woodworker...

LMFAO... from hero to zero in a second..lol.. too funny... the Paddles Chris purchased somewhere and he wanted some designs put on them.. so I sand the finish off of them draw the design on and then paint them, after that I varnish them with 4 coats of verithane to protect them... Sorry to let you guys down.. I like them that is all the matters (and who I was painting them for.. it would have sucked if he told me he didn't like them..)

I actually read and understood your first post, Sooooo I knew you didn't make the paddle, you painted the artwork on the paddle.  And I stand by my previous statement " Wow, Nice work!"
Cheers Rick

Thanks Rick... I thought I made the post clear enough..lol..
Was speaking to Chris last night and he has decided on some ideas for his new paddle when he gets it.. Killer whales and Bears. So now I have some time to get some images worked on and ready while he goes shopping.. its harder than you would think to purchase a wooden kayak paddle now a days...lol...

The last time I saw a rabbit smoking a long stemmed pipe, I was smoking a long stemmed pipe.... Hmmmm I wonder if the two were connected somehow,
further study could be required.
Rick
Funny thing.... when I smoked the pipe, I too thought I was smarter than the panther

 lol!!!

i also knew you were doing the art work, still it was well executed and a nice design etc. :)

the scout shop here in saint john  has a 2 piece wooden yak paddle with a carbon connector piece if i remember right. some where in the $175 range i think. nice but plain - perfect for some major art work!

when i was in colledge my room mate was an expert on keltic knots (i never could spell that right), so i`m a little leery of trying to meet his standards. he was the guy who designed the Ottawa senators logo, they sent a rep to his funeral a couple years back. a watercolor by him hangs in the print shop i use. rip Jim.

AHHH cougars, The best educator a young man can have. Learn more in one weekend than 5 years of hanging out with idiot friends at the park. Good times, happy memories. As I said about 200 posts ago
