ADVICE FOR FIRST TRIP
« on: April 06, 2011, 07:30:55 am »
Hey all:

Even though I don't have all the bits for the boat yet, I can't wait any longer.  I'm hoping to get out this Sat for my first yak fishing ever and I'm thinking of trying Cox Lake.  I've never fished this lake before, so I'm hoping for some advice on what to expect.  I've scouted it out and it looks pretty good.  Where's the best place to launch from and any tips on what works best in this lake would be appreciated.

Cheers
BKiley

Best place to launch is take Yankeetown road off of Hammonds Plains Rd, then take I believe the first right onto coxs lake rd.  There is a gravel boat launch there, this is the north end of the lake.  Fished there last weekend and got skunked but you may have better luck.

this time a year calls for a slow presentation, i wouldnt be ripping spinnerbaits or anything.  you want to
use something that can stay in front of the Bass for an extended period.  they have yet to start spawning so they may have a bit of
lock jaw, but not uncatchable.. just takes patience.

Barring some "crisis" the wife comes up with or some freak weather, I plan on being there ...

BKiley... it looks as though we are going to hit up Fish Lake instead if you want in..
Ill be on Coxs a lot this year though, if you ever want to hook up..
You should try to make it up to Weymouth this year for our Spring Smallie Slam..
gonna be a hell of a time.

Fish Lake is one I'm not familiar with.  Where abouts is it and what kind of fishing does it offer?

Fish Lake is on the approach to Oakfield Park out past Fall River, Wellington up the #2 highway. Go to Oakfield and just before you get to the bridge over the train tracks it's on the right. I guess you guys drag your yaks down from the road? I'd like to fish that lake from the yak...is there another access? If all goes well I might head out to Coxs myself!
