GoPro Hero HD
« on: March 25, 2011, 07:25:59 am »

Picking up one of these today and hopefully will take it on a test run on the water tomorrow.  Does anyone here use this camera for yak fishing?  I know a lot of kayakers that swear by it for whitewater and kayak surfing so I can only assume it will perform just as well for fishing.  It comes with 2 adhesive-backed mounting plates, and if they are sticky enough I may just adhere one up near the fish finder on my trident then goop the edges and see how well it holds.  It also comes with the head-lamp style strap so you can film from a first person perspective which is great.

The video is shot in 1280×960 pixels and the stills are 5MP with a variety of shooting modes like self timer, burst, and time-lapse (2 / 5 / 10 / 30 / and 60 second intervals)

They are $269. from their website http://gopro.com/ I have been looking at these for quite some time.there are tons of utube vids from kayaks and surfing and such.I have read some awsome reviews my self on them but am very interested to hear what somone on here has to say about them. I have also price them on ebay starting at around $200. not bad for a high def video and still cam combo.

here is a white water kayak run with the gopro cam

Yeah they are $199 at futureshop for the 960 HD model.  Which shoots at 1280×960 @ 30fps.  They come with the head strap plus a bunch of mounting hardware, battery lasts 2.5 hours I believe and you can get up to 9 hours of video at max res on a 32gb SD card, or 16000 stills on the same card.

The nicer one, the hd helmet cam that you talk about at first, is around $350ish give or take ten or twenty bucks

Just got it, very pleased with the function and quality shooting around outside.  Just trying to figure out where to mount it on the kayak.

This year March is much colder then last year, this week temp didn't rise above "0"c .
I guess I will hit water in April
