So; I am taking members advice of trying them both out at demo's.
Probably going to Toronto Sportsmen's Show this weekend to see if OK is giving demo's of these yaks.
I saw that Johnson Outdoors are one of the vendors showing up.

Anyways, I want to see if anyone had any advice or inputs with these two yaks.
They are pretty new models so no one has any decent reviews or anything; so, I am pretty in the dark.
All I have are the specifications on the OK site.

I like how the Torque rudder sits in a recessed point on the Torque.
Does the Trident or Ultra have the recessed points where the rudder stays on when it is retracted up?

I also saw that the Trident 15 Angler has no foot braces but have the rivets for your heel of your foot to rest.
How doe the rudder foot braces look when installed on the Trident 15.
I have OCD and am worried how it will look. Haha.
Can anyone give snap shots of how the Trident 15 Angler looks with the foot braces of the rudder?

Thanks guys, any more input would be appreciated.
Thanks again.  :P

the foot braces look like what they do on the T13.
the rudder pack comes with a bracket to hold the rudder in place when out of the water. (not molded into plastic like the older models).
i have a few good vids ill post up of a rudder install.

Thanks so much.  ;)
That actually looks good.
Haha.

Do you know if that is how it looks when ordering a kayak with factory installed rudders?

Yeah; Im leaning towards the Trident 15.
The Ultra looks really bulky.

I like the idea of the sonar shield.
Pretty nice.

Still, not sure.
I'm going nuts.
Haha.

Hopefully the sportsmen's show in Toronto will have the models there to look at.

I'm kind of in the same boat but trying to decide which of the Tridents I want 11 vs 13 vs 15.

It seems like the longer boats might be a disadvantage in smaller inland lakes and rivers because they are less maneuverable. Is this really true?

Does anyone have any experience with having a problem on smaller water because the boat is too long? How small does the water need to be for this to be an issue.

I'm planning on going into medium and small sized lakes, and sometimes some smaller rivers and creeks. But I would also like the option to hit Lake Ontario or other Great Lakes every once in awhile.

I have been leaning towards the Trident 13 because it is a compromise, but will it make it impossible on those small rivers and creeks?  I'm thinking about the Mississauga River and Eel's Creek in the Kawarthas if anyone has any experience with those.

Btw another vendor to check out at the Toronto Sportsman's Show is the Muskoka Paddle Shack - http://www.muskokapaddleshack.ca/. According to their website they are selling new 2011 kayaks with a $100-$400 discount plus $100-$200 in free gear if you order at the show for a spring pick up. Unfortunately I don't think OK is one of their suppliers though.

I have used 16 footers in small rivers. Are you rushing when you fish? Im not. If you are thinking of the 13 footer it is your best option. You can use a 13 footer in the big lakes and get away just fine. Your not going to be trolling salmon in 8 foot waves. The 15 is a better option for the coastal guys. I would grab a T13 and modify it up :)

Unless you have to do any technical paddling in rapids etc.... I would guess you will be happier with the longer kayak... Just because you mentioned lake Ontario... To paddle out a few km to get to the fish you may want a longer kayak with  More speed /  range... Better in rough water... More storage etc....   But it all comes down to personal preference, where you store it etc...  Just my 2 cents..

Good Luck

Well, I'm planning on going Lake Ontario and Lake Scugog. The majority of the time.
Obviously, hit up all Kawartha Lakes region as well.
Rice Lake, Pidgeon lake, Sturgeon lake, etc.
I have many lakes that I usually go on and I wouldnt mind having the longer boat for storage as well.
I would get the 13 footer but the 15 footer offers alot more pros to my fishing style.

Im not going to be turning around left, right, and center all the time when fishing for bass.
The rudder will help manouvering the smaller lakes as well.

Personally, I tried a friends 15 footer on Lake Scugog and it is not that large compared to Lake Simcoe.
I did not have any problems.
All I was doing was going from lilly pads to the next bunch of pads.

I guess it really depends.
In the end, the 15 footer helps satisfy all my fishing and camping needs.
The biggest advantage was the width.
I can stand! Haaha.  ;D

I have made my decision.
Finally! My friend's probably were the reason for this.
However, I have come to a finalized well-thought out decision.

I am purchasing the following;
"2011 Ocean Kayak Trident Ultra 4.7 Angler"

The reason?
The Ultra 4.7 MSRP: $1,599.00 Plus Tax
The Trident 15: $1,419.00 Plus Tax (With Rudder)

These prices were from the OK Site.
I would rather pay the difference of  $180.00 to;

1. Recieve a larger tank well than the Trident 15
2. Advanced customization for the live well (where there is another miniture well behind the seat with the bilge pump and cover all included)
3. Integrated and molded handles on all sides of the kayak (Reduce line-tangling and more durable to prevent ripping them off when carrying it)
4. The reversible center hatch will put my fishfinder closer to me than it will in the sonar shield on the Trident 15
5. I can put more rods in the boat with the rod pod
6. Customized live well ice box that will store my gear without a milk crate plus I can put my take-home fish in there with lots of room left.
7. Two more rod mounts than the Trident 15.
8. Center hatch is more water tight than the Trident 15 (according to Experiements done in New Zealand)
9. Better model seat than the Trident 15.

Those are some of the features that weighed me towards throwing $180.00 more on the investment. I'm not including the hull design advancements or even the smaller issues about stability.

There are obviously issues that made me steer away from the Ultra 4.7;

1. Heavier - might be difficult to raise it on my roof when I go alone.
2. Capacity is 100lbs less on the Ultra 4.7.

Anyways, I'm ranting.
All I want to say is thank you to all for making this decision possible for me. Haha.  ;D
I feel so much better that I finally narrowed my decision down to one.
Five months of researching and reviewing is all done.

Time to search around for the best price!
Anyone get any deals or employee discounts anywhere?
Haha.  :o
