Title: North America Kayak Wars
Post by: shooter on April 11, 2016, 06:01:51 am
As of this morning it looks like the Canadian teams have been bumped into North American waters. And Caribbean/Europe and Australia only left in International ranking.

Not sure what the reasoning is there.   I may be currently up there in the standings, but it is only a fluke really because of the crazy early spring that I have been able to get out at all.   Last year at this time I'd still be waiting to get my kayak wet for the first time.    I don't know about those of you in central Canada, but out here in Eastern Canada, there is no way we can compete with most of the regions in the U.S.

That being said, there is no way they can do it to make everyone happy.

Last year there was a team standing list for North American freshwater.

Would like to see that again.

Your right there is no way to make everyone happy? Its been fun to compete against only Canadian guys ;D I think they are probably looking at it as North American to stop the issue with the cross boarder fishing Canada/U.S.A . this will make some of us happy?
Good luck this year everyone

All our all time records are gone too :(

We can definitely compete with American's on team fresh water standings. Last year our team came 2nd in that regard.

Have to wait and see how the prizes are going to all work.

Canada is just under the North America title headings instead of International. Its says absolutely nothing about not still being Canada area(s) at this time. So they will probably just split into 3 areas  possibly next year for us. West/Central/East like the states do. Our laws/seasons and amount of lines all differ from our counterparts across the border. After all we are Canadians/not Americans.

Shame about the records, it's a mess now...my 20"Cutthroat is now a small rainbow?? from the states, my 27"Burbot record is a nice American carp, and my 19" Brook trout record is a 14?"  Brookie from the states.

I am sure they plan on fixing the records(that is if they know they are messed up now).

That is the problem with trying to set things up and adjust things mid season. There are always going to be hiccups and just takes time to sort them all out.

Yep mid season fixups, no biggie. Nice to see some new sponsers on site also. Eager for the new monthly /weekend contests theve talked about also. Plenty of oddball ways to make them fun.

They got rid of ties.
See a new channel cat record caught on the weekend at the OKFS event on the Grand.
Guess buddy doesn't want a lure ( or is unaware of us ).  :D ( Not the  best pic. anyhow)

I finally got out and on the board.  :)

See you came 1st in the OKFS catfish tourney, guess you found the right bait.

Thanks Brent!  Sucker cut bait seems to be the standard for that area.  Got one fish in the first half hour floatfishing some current in 3 feet of water.  Then 6 hours later saw some boats catching in 14 feet, anchored nearby and eventually started to get a few.  Red Rocket hooked up while having a snooze and gave us the ok to drop anchor in the area.  It was a fun day and the first time out of 4 trips that I had caught any fish there.

I see tiger trout added to kw species list ( good going KC ).
Also sunfish limit increased to 20 a month, darn I should have kept
fishing for them, lol . Crappie barely biting yet and not much else available
nearby yet.  Rock n Roll.

I just wish I had known before I went out I only took a couple pics...might have had a couple more close to min size...Oh well...I was curious to see how they faired the winter with no regulations in place yet, numbers waaay down so is average size available. Heres hoping they become a listed species soon and have some protection from the masses.

Yeah AEP dropped the ball hard on our tigers... Hoping to get out and nail some shortly.

Guessing they won't be as easy to catch as they were last fall. Gonna be a lot less of them and gonna be a lot smarter now too.

Cutties are by far and away the worst fish to try and photograph. I thought it was brookies but I was wrong...
Title: Re: North America Kayak Wars
Post by: Kayak Curtis on May 02, 2016, 04:02:43 pm
Yep almost anything of size got put in a garbage bag with dozens of others almost daily, definitely a embarrassment for real sportsmen that this was allowed to happen. I really hope they didn't go to waste in somebody's freezer...

& I still say Brookies, although any trout can be difficult to pose right after ice out in coooold water...

Am I missing something... Last year we could report our incorrect submissions on the site itself is that not a option this year??

Yes I know...I had 2 doubles today...

I believe it is one of the things they are still working on. For now have to email Jason, they have been keeping a close eye and staying on top of submissions so far.

Just got an email and skirmish results are finalized.

1   Tyler Murray (Ravyak)   130
2   Mike Lowe (Turtle64)   97
3   Wes Kyle (Hobie slayer)   96
4   Robert Gheysens (Good Catch)   73
5   Joe Lafontaine (shooter)   64

Canada put forward a pretty good showing with 3 of top 5!

If anyone would be interested in purchasing a power-pole anchor system let me know. I don't have a use for it myself so will be looking to sell the gift card to someone that would like one. I know some of you guys are more into the bass fishing and fish shallower water so might work better for some of you guys.

Gift card is for 250 USD but I will give a good deal on it if someone is interested.

And 7 in the top 20 for the skirmish.
Man that's a lot of beaut trouts you caught there Tyler. Cong!
KW may have to start handicapping Canucks, hope not.
Power pole is a great accessory, but yeah can't stay still enough to have a use for it myself.
Greydog, pretty sure you can sign up still, go to KW main page to register.
There's one Cdn team with only 2 members, need 3 to make a team, will leave it to you
to try to contact, facebook ? , .

Been trying to get my trout fix in before the water temps get too high. Also been improving my fly fishing abilities which has made a huge difference on catch rate. Struggling to get anything big yet this year though.

Sent an e-mail to jason@kayakwars.com to rid a couple duplicate entries.
Duplicates were deleted the next day. Just suggesting to e-mail Jason to correct entries,
especially those ones that are the wrong species for our Canadian record section IMO !

He was right on top of mine as well, next day...sounds like we will have our yearly/species totals back on our profile pages soon as well, which will be nice to see and compare how a guys doing compared to previous years.

Jason is pretty much of on top of changes, and some get missed or not intentional. The day caught needs to get back up on site to make it easier.  The mislabled species will straighten up shortly. And the fish amounts down for me. I need some inland lakes that are stocked with no competition on them lol. Lol
Title: Re: North America Kayak Wars
Post by: EagleEyesFlash on May 26, 2016, 09:31:05 am
"Inland stocked lakes with no fishing pressure ", ya would like to find too.
Got skunked on a bow lake 2 weeks ago, didn't seem to be many carry overs from
the year before, guess someone slayed em in the winter. Also apparently I did
alright getting just 1 brookie from a PQ lake . Head north man , head north.

Lol. Move west young man. Nice lakes though Brent in north country. My buddy hit his inland lake up in Parrysound and landed 53 northerns this past weekend. Tripping over them in canoe

Ya, the snots were on fire last night here too, but have to head west, north, east, or south for a big one.

Oh and the powerpole coupon not for me either Tyler. I actually eyed up second prize. Dont have any use like yourself for one. If so can use a simple anchor.

Post by: Kayak Curtis on May 26, 2016, 10:33:04 am
Great trout lakes out here the problem is the drives involved in landing anything quality other than rainbow trout... Min 2-3 hours one way for brookies, browns or tigers cutthroats about 5hrs...
Title: Re: North America Kayak Wars
Post by: Ravyak on May 26, 2016, 01:49:55 pm
Yeah gotta drive for the trout here. I would rather drive 2 hrs for brookies, tigers or browns then 1 hr for mediocre catch and release walleye though...
Title: Re: North America Kayak Wars
Post by: Kayak Curtis on May 26, 2016, 01:53:20 pm
I agree...although some of us have to work so long drives aren't always a option...lol...and only one walleye lake within a hr of my home...and it's almost toast.
 &  I C&R 95% of my trout as well
However our lakes out here are not unpressured, probably some of the most pressured in the county.

So is your competition....lol

Don't hope too much. My fishing buddy is almost keeping up with me lately and he works full time. What is going to slow me down is getting bored and not wanting to travel to all these different lakes each month.

With better weather the rest of our team should start putting up some more points. Poor guys have family and lives outside of fishing lol.

This might be my last year in kayakwars. I like the extra incentive it gives a guy to get out and target some of these other species but if you want to compete at top level it requires a lot of effort. And unfortunately as you guys know I don't have a go easy switch when it comes to competing lol.

Oh and side note I have already been in contact with KW earlier this week regarding the incorrect records(RMW, LMB and White Perch) and I see they have fixed the LMB and White Perch. They must not be sure about Jim's Lake White but guessing they will fix it too. If there are others send them to Adrian, he is taking care of those issues.

That is something I have always wondered since I see fish that look the same and some people claim they are white perch and others white bass.

In this link below it says only the bass have stripes so I would believe bass.

http://www.seagrant.umn.edu/exotics/wperch.html (http://www.seagrant.umn.edu/exotics/wperch.html)

I wouldn't even want to know how many wrong white bass/white perch are on KW. Probably quite a few.

What is the best way to send a pic. of a fish to a buddy, that is on your camera, so
that he can use it for KW ? Tried just posting it on FB but think time/date data lost when
copied. I e-mailed it but the pic. appears very big ( 3.0 MB ), should work . Thought of just
posting it here, using direct download and then he could copy it, but will time/date data
be lost ? Suggestions ? E-mail should work .
