Thanks John for starting the topic.

I was hoping to get on a team this year.  I am currently registered but if I am not mistaken I have time to get on a team.  Not sure how to go about it.  Anybody else looking for team members let me know or message me! I'd be willing to join with anybody (competitive or not). I plan on doing a lot of fishing myself for at least 7 months of the year especially during the 2 months off this summer (I'm a teacher). I am not concerned about winning the team title but I could see a Canadian team doing it after looking at the overview of last season.

Spyman48 that sounds like an awesome trip!

Eric, I think our team is the same guys again this year, but I'm sure there are teams that still need a member or 2. Kayak Wars will let you join a team at anytime I think. Just give them an email when you get on a team. Maybe try posting on Kayakwars Facebook page that your looking for a team.

Hey Eric, good to see  that some Saskbush kayak fish will be posted. You fish Tobin or you are further north ?
( My Mum's from Nipawin )
KW Quota for pike and walleye  for Team and / or individual is 50 a month, you may be better off as an individual if you are gonna slay em and want a bunch of points.

Sandy Bay.  On the Churchill with lots of lakes around me to choose from.  I’m originally from PEI.  I’m sure a lot of you in these forums are together on teams already.

Eagle Eyes -does that mean if my teammates get a lot of walleye I can’t get as many  individual points from my own walleye catches. In that case I might consider being a lone Wolf.

Yes if on a team the maximum number of each species is the combined total for whole team.

I am going to be a lone angler this year, it doesn't make any sense to enter as a team with the current setup.

Hard to get motivated after last season and not having any idea what they are going to do with prizes etc. Definitely not going to be trying to win again unless they announce some wicked prizes.

Unlikely for nothing more than whats offered now. The amount of teams will likely be way smaller. No where near the 650 like last year due to the absence of company online and even the paddle offered was nevered handed out.  Less than 200 guys rightnow and a long way to go

Look at it as a subscription service to keep track of PB's. Being a specie / trophy guy still enjoy looking at their  record pics.  Hope it matures and gets away from rewarding the ridiculous bloodbath, imo.  :)

The price getting higher and the services are just not there.
I'm still on the fence if I will be joining this year. I have made a spread sheet to keep track of all my catches and pbs so might just stick with that. I can still compare to the stats on kw if I don't join

For what it costs, I'm totally fine with it. Spent $25 on things that I've used way less. It would be nice to have more prizes and such, but I'm still playing even without any. I was never really in it for the prizes. I like taking and sharing board pics. I also like seeing others doing the same. It's cool to see a friend or teammate get a new species that's been a challenge for them, or see the pic of that PB they finally bettered. If the price ever goes up, I'd probably not join.

He received the paddle in October, I just looked back on his facebook page...

I just received my gift certificate, they got me a Cabelas Canada card and even threw a few extra bucks on it. Still waiting on the prize pack, it will be interesting to see what is in it. The gift certificate came straight from Cabelas so that explains why it came separate.

I have always received the prizes stated for what I have won. The only time I think they tried to back out of a prize was the first year when they listed the few extra Hobie prizes on website but myself and possibly a few others messaged them about it and they made things right.

I only have two frustrations with them. The first being that they lost most of their sponsors or something including all their big prizes like Hobie, Pelican etc. The prizes their first year were very good with multiple kayaks and lots of other good gear but last year it was just t-shirts, koozies, a paddle, a few rods, a couple sunglasses, a gift card and whatever my prize pack ends up being. Heck my spring skirmish prize the first year was bigger then all the main prizes this year. Second frustration was that they waited most of last year before announcing the lack of prizes, I already had a ton of time and money invested but I knew I was taking that risk since they hadn't announced anything.

Hopefully they will announce the prizes/prize structure earlier this year and will have their heads in the game this year. This tournament has a lot of potential, if they lined up good prizes, draws, skirmishes etc they could easily up the entry fee significantly(like $100).

Hey guys been a long time since I’ve posted anything.  This year I want to try and get more involved on the sites that I am a member of.

So speaking of KW, I am looking for anyone that wants to join my team who DOESN’T normally target pike or walleye in Canada since it seems like these are the only 2 species that I am able to catch in my region, Alberta.
Shortly after joining KW for the first time last year, I quickly came to the conclusion that having team mates in the same province who are targeting the same species can really hinder your chances of maximizing the amount of individual points you can personally accumulate per month.  So I’m taking a long shot in asking if there’s other anglers in the other 9 provinces and 3 territories on this site who don’t target pike or walleye in their region? .. ya right lol!

But keep in mind if you do want to join my team, you have to be good looking, have a full head of hair, have no more than 7% body fat and be able to hog tie a calf under 7 seconds!

My KW team name is Dangling Wormz.

You should look for people to fill your pike and walleye so you can learn how to catch the other species available to you.

It’s hard to get away when you have a family that wants to do things together at least 1 day of each weekend.
My plan this year is to try and max out the easy ones, pike and walleye by the 2nd weekend of every month fishing only 1 day of each weekend.  I know it’s doable because of the luck I had last fall on single day fishing trips.  Then I’ll have at least 2 more fishing trips to try and catch other species.

Being single has both its advantages and disadvantages lol.

I'd focus more on having fun and chasing some personal bests then spending all your time on kayak wars. Go to the mountains and chase 30 inch rainbows, 30 inch bulls, 24 inch cutties and 14 inch grayling. Try fishing the river for sturgeon and go hunting for some big pike and walleye you know where. Head south and try to catch a decent brown trout. Go hiking for a golden trout etc.

Best thing that ever happened to me was in my first year of kayak wars when I had the falling out with Curtis and quit. I then focused on learning how to catch all the other species available and it made me 10 times the angler I used to be.

Then you can go back and win kayak wars when they start offering decent prizes again lol.

The i11 was barely worth the effort I put in that year let alone the effort I put in last year for much less. That is why I am saying to people enter fish for fun, don't make the mistake I did and try to compete in a tournament that likely won't be giving back for your efforts.

I am only competing for fun this year unless they get things together but so far it isn't looking good. They moved the spring skirmish up to March and we are supposedly 5 days into the skirmish already but no prizes listed or leaderboard set up... Not a single post or update since they started this season over a month ago and why are they still doing kayak man points if they don't count for anything? Looking very similar to last year with lack of direction and involvement by management.

I did not participate last year for Kayak Wars or the KFGL Season Long Online Challenge, both were always on my mind when I went out fishing.  I replaced the year long challenges with weekend and monthly challenges which still pushed me to go out and target mainly bass, which helped me to become a better tournament angler.

I personally like KW because it's multi species. Don't get me wrong, I love bass fishing and will always do as many tournys a year as I can  but there's a lot of other awesome species to catch. I'm not as much of a hardcore multi species as some,  but love lake trout, musky, walleye and pike fishing just as much as bass. There's not many other multi species events out there and it would be a shame if Kayak Wars ends.

The concept is awesome, they just need to improve execution. You can't get rid of all the top prizes and draw prizes and expect people to keep competing.

It still is a cool tournament to enter for fun, just not worth trying to be competitive in anymore.

Yep the site is pretty much no sign of life. No sponser list at all now and never finished up last years stuff completely. Likely a stats site now if guys even post. And yes the best site for species to get out and change things up. And Brent just took a look at those pics and clearly something strange when the hand and fish have creases like the boat lol

Their Spring Squirmish is on, good for them, like most squirmishes this year geared towards southern anglers.

So are you thinking he caught these ice fishing and brought them home and took board pics in kayak in back yard? The fish are clearly dead and the sand does look dry. Hmmm. No real reason to cheat, but who knows.

3 measly brook trout, not even worth talking about. Even if lakes are still frozen there are legal ways to get points right now, give him the benefit of the doubt. If he is cheating he will slip up and get caught, they always do.

22 Canadians now registered , 5 new guys.

Goals ? Mine just to improve profile, add a specie or two, upgrade a few pbs and maybe a new record or two.

Guess learn how to download from phone. Still no data, just Wi-Fi, figure Wi-Fi will be free and available all over in a year or two ?  Need to do I guess if have to use Tourney X app for tournies.

I finally got out for the first time.

We are having one of our coldest longest winters in quite a while. For the past little while we were 20 degrees below average. Our lakes haven't even started to melt yet, we have around 3 feet of ice and lots of snow laying around. Our main lakes likely won't be ice free until mid to late May this year although I hope it won't be that long...

True cold water experience last 2 weekends and Saturday by far the coldest start on open waters of the Detroit river with young Spencer joining me. Starting at  21 degrees and never got above 26 Fahrenheit not including the winds. The Easter weekend was the first walleyes of the year by myself. Third year in a row and this by far the worst start with dirty water conditions. Just havent bothered posting yet  Brent. No incentives. Hope u get out soon 😎

Still 7-11 more days of this forecasted too...

All Alberta's tar sand fault I figure. More C0 2 emissions, melt a bunch of Ice up North and then get MODERATE temps, lots of clouds and a moderate spring. All before the eventual heat wave that's coming. LUV Alberta, twist up BC, need to get our heavy oil to market, to pay all those government jobs and our huge deficits ! US self efficient for gas and oil now, fracking...

Okay lets grow lots of POT ( potash too ) and become a world exporter in that resource. Long live the Big Red Maple Leaf ?

Income tax done, child support payed ( no deductions like our pre successors use to get ), truck fixed another year...time for some kayak stress relief and a smoke and  fishn ! EEF

Canada's CO2 emissions are small let alone Albertas... As a country we are CO2 negative and far from the problem at hand.

You are correct about us Albertan's having to pay for government jobs and deficits though especially the ones down east... I wouldn't want to even think about what shape our country would be in without the 200 billion we have donated east in the past decade... Sure would have been nice to have that ~$5,000 per year in my pocket...

Pictures pictures pictures have pretty much come to an end other then a couple to post. The chasing for kwars is pretty much over other than perhaps the records. The site is again is limbo and numbers half of last years. Sure many of us could post way more fish but no point in doing so and save yourself the nonsense. Maybe someone will take over the site and totally change it up year after year.

Yup didn't listen to any of my recommendations. They seem to think people just want to enter this for fun.

People want to compete and they want to be able to win something, getting rid of the draw last year as well as big prizes just got rid of the motivation of most people entering. Only 345 anglers registered so far this year, maybe they will get the point.

I'll still enter some fish from my normal trips out but not committing time or money to this like past years. The prize pack they announced for finishing top place overall got forgot about or something and after a couple reminders eventually turned into a couple shirts, pair of gloves, water bottle, koozie, stickers etc. Couple decent items but not worth competing 10 months for.
