Title: Waterfowl hunting kayak
Post by: Nobiggie on July 16, 2016, 11:55:09 am
So, I have decided to rig up a kayak for waterfowl hunting. Never own a kayak and have done it a few time. So I am going to make a mobile blind. The kayak I got was free. Is a pelican quest 100. Has a couple holes in it from a forklift unloading off of a truck. But figure I can fix that. Just wondering what you guys use for patching that is easy and quick to buy from your average store.

After fixing the the holes. I am going to look at making some type of stabilizers to help keep things just s little more steady. Wondering what some guys use and how to mount them. Other then those few question I think I have got it figured. And all I need now is to see other people rigs if you have made something like this. I'll probably end up making a thread on the build and I think this will make duck hunting a breeze. Thank you in advance for the help.

There are a free diy stabilizers in the diy section.
As for patches it really depends on the size. If cracks plastic welding works. Melt a similar plastic into the cracks etc. If big holes will need to patch. You could use thin aluminum sheet rivets and caulking.

I know a few guys here have fixed holes and might have a better option then mine.
If you have a pic of the holes it would help decide the rough to go

Am where do I find these free stabilizers?

here the picture of the two small holes. I was thinking to heat it up with a heat gun. Try to work the plastic back to the original shape of the kayak. Then seeing how big the puncture is if I'll need a bigger patch or just plastic weld it back together.

So how did it go ?
Found 3 boxes of SS federal #6 Cloud at a launch in the fall, think I'll buy the migratory stamp, and small game license next year. Will be a hoot with shotgun and trolling rods in the Hobie next year ? A few birds for a hearty snack .

Can you actually work the pedals with that contraption over your Outback?

Yes, plenty of room to 'work the pedals', and I'm 6' tall and what I like to call - 'husky' !
