Title: Homemade kayak hand paddle
Post by: Cubby on June 09, 2015, 04:01:29 pm
I noticed I used my hands often to position the kayak when fishing. Especially when drifting with the wind. So here is my homemade hand paddle.

Parts:
A medium size cutting board from the Dollar store (not the thick one).
piece of a hockey stick (approx 14")

I cut the cutting board down to approx 12" x 6".
Cut the hockey stick down the middle (using a table saw).

Position the cutting board in the slot. Use construction adhesive and stainless steel screws to set it.

Here is the final "prototype". I'll test it out this weekend and build a new version if needed. So far the total cost is $2.25.

I never looked at those hand paddles like this.  Ive seen them in shops before, but didnt really give them much attention, but now that you mentioned it, its actually a pretty handy idea.  Nice job!!
You'll have to post up the final product.

I have seen a few guys use small hand paddles and it seems like it would be neat too have. lots of times u just need a small adjustment on your position
Great work!

Just another hand paddle option....

A little bigger than yours, and probably more awkward, but I already have it with me anyway and it's pretty effective.
