Title: The PERFECT kayak fishing supplier, help!
Post by: 12footer on June 14, 2010, 08:50:20 am
Hey guys,

I was hoping you all could give me some ideas and thoughts.  What would you consider to be essential kayak fishing gear, or at least gear you feel a good retailer should carry for this niche market?

I think some essentials might be:

Scotty Triple
various Scotty rod holders
High-back seat cover
7 amp batteries
ruler stickers

What else?

Thanks for helping,

Russ

I think various kayak geared "stuff" like rivets, padeyes etc etc. This stuff is incredibly hard to find.

This might be way out there but how about reasonably priced yaks, kayaks are waaaay over priced

Depends how close you are to the US border!  Might be worth the drive to get your kayak there.
Scotty stuff is reasonably priced most places.  Most stocking dealers order direct from Scotty.  Then again Island Outfitters here in Victoria is 10k from the Scotty plant!
I ordered rivets and leashes and a few other things I couldn't find locally from these two sources.

Lee Valley for your sticker ruler!

As already mention for me would be

rigging hardware like bellybuster said. "this stuff is really hard to find"
fishing high back pfd
camera mount "eg ram mount"
Scotty triple, flush, extender etc.  wish scotty made a camera mount...  Told Gord from Scotty that they should add a camera mount that plug in to the base mount for like $10-20, it would sell like crazy..  Basically the top part of a camera mount minus the leg with a scotty post that stick into a base mount.

Kayak light
kayak flag
3m reflective deck line.

*battery can get any hardware or marine store.

Rudder kits would be a good addition, drift socks, anchors, fish finders, Xshot camera mounts etc...

Along the lines of some of the other posts, but that I haven't seen specifically mentioned: clam cleats, anchor kits, marine sealant, etc.

Essentially anything we use to modify our kayaks.
