man I love rock bass. We used to have so many rock bass here in Windsor when I was a kid. You could catch close to a hundred a night from shore. Now they are gone. The gobies and the american meat poachers got them all :(

Nice greenback.... that's what I miss most about fishing in Alberta compared to fishing when I lived in Winnipeg. Walleye... Big feed your family with 1 fish walleye. And not just one but all day long.  Nothing like that near here.. not even close.
enjoy
Rick

I've been told that my musky doesn't meet minimum length requirements and therefore is ineligible for the AOTY. I'll hopefully replace this 32"er with one that is longer than 44".

Do you mean that because of the minimum size for retention (killing and keeping the fish) had not been met? Even if you catch and release it it doesn't count?

When I saw this it made me think about the laker I just entered and since it is a 60cm minimum for retention in region 3 here in BC it won't count either if this is the case. I would have put more effort into getting a bigger one... crap. Pretty tough as I don't know how many chances I'll get on those guys now.

Anyway, if this is the case then fair is fair. That was a nice musky for the record though :)

Oh man, I just looked it up again and Bridge Lake is just in Region 5 without the minimum.

This is a reminder for myself to check things a little better - whew :D

Nice pike!

I can't see any minimum length requirements in the rules, am I missing soemthing?? I must be.
The fish was caught legally, in season and released as per regulation. What's the deal

Come to New Brunswick.  The minimum legal size to retain a muskie is 10cm.  (That is 4" for all you folks who resist the metric system).  I keep expecting them to increase it, but they haven't.  That might be because it is an invasive species here.

What I think is more frustrating is a slot, where you have a minimum and maximum length, only fish between can be retained.  That would mean all trophy fish must be returned (e.g. 13.8" to 19.7" retention for Kawartha lakes Walleye), not that it really has been a problem for me, the only walleye I caught was probably just 10".

Keep it up Jedi, you'll probably break the 44" sooner or later.

so if someone catches a monster above the keep slot it doesn't count??? Fish that are outside of a keep slot are not illegal to catch as long as in season, you just can't keep them

There is a local tournament on Rice for Walleye, only in slot fish count.  Other fish (in a restricted range) must be released immediately, therefore they don't count.  I'd really like to see a catch and release option in the regs that is more clear other than released immediately.  Although I need to catch one of the buggers first.

Your right Belly, according to the rules of this tourney it wouldn't count  :'(.  That rule is new for Walleye in 2010 in FMZ 17.  That's the thing about this tourney though, you can travel to any body of water in Canada.

Your also right, it is not illegal to catch out of slot limit fish because there is no way to control what bites your lure  :D.  Unfortunately your just suppose to throw them back, no photos.  My 21" Walleye I got this weekend was the only one I have caught this year, had to throw it back  :'(.

Jedi..Lucky incedental catch..Beats still fishing and chumming.drop bread..there's a rock bass,
perch..a round goby .
Appreciate your chub joke ..didn't get it a first..thought you were talking about my girlfriend
( ex was a bit big..last skinney ).
What's your favourite muskie crank..jerk bait?
My favourite was a 9" floating Mighty Dog..plastic Minnnow..rattle..2 Gamakustu Trebles..
they do not make it anymore ( defective out of box..water would seep into chamber..
fix..hot pin ..suck water out and expoxy around eyelets at belly of lure)
It was cylindrical..light (no big splash )..Most Lures now are more rectangular and heavy
( Grandma's, etc ).Like the new half soft platics..seen lots pike/muskie tap a lure with there snout before committing..Caught a pike on a shallow invader this wked.
May the force be with you.
